Traditional Palestinian Costume: Origins and Evolution by Hanan Karaman Munayyer won the Bronze medal for the ‘Book of the Year’ Award in the Art division. This prestigious Award was given to the author and Interlink Publishing by the renown group ForeWord Reviews, USA. More than 2000 books of different categories were submitted for review in 2011, and the winners were announced June 2012. The book was described by the reviewing committee as: “Extensively researched, lavishly illustrated study of the origins of Palestinian embroidery and costume”

The ‘Book of the Year’ Award from Foreword Reviews has been regarded as one of the most prestigious in the book industry and is one of the top five major journals in publishing.

‘Traditional Palestinian Costume’ at the Ramallah Book Fair

The Ramallah Book Fair is back after four years of absence. The fair ran from October 11, 2012 to October 21, 2012 and included over fifty thousand titles from around the world. “Traditional Palestinian Costume: Origins and Evolution” by Hanan Munayyer was featured at the Book Fair.

This stunning publication was presented by “Al Ru’ah” bookstore owned by Mr. Nichola Akel of Ramallah, Palestine. Those interested in purchasing this historical document should visit Mr. Nichola Akel bookstore at Rukab street in Ramallah.

Visiting the “Al Ru’ah” display at the Book Fair was Archbishop Atalla Hanna and Mr. Bassam Abu Sharif advisor to the late President Arafat. Seen with them is Mr. Nichola Akel owner of “Al Ru’ah” bookstore in Ramallah.

إشادة بجهود السيدة حنان مُنيِر في ابراز التراث الفلسطيني

 رام الله- وجه سيادة المطران عطاالله حنا رئيس اساقفة سبسطية للروم الارثوذكس اليوم كلمة تحية وشكر وافتخار واعتزاز الى السيدة الفاضلة حنان مُنيِر رئيسة جمعية التراث العربي الفلسطيني في نيوجيرسي والتي احتفي اليوم باصدارها الفخم والهام في معرض الكتاب الفلسطيني الثامن  في رام الله, وهو مجلد ضخم حول التراث الفلسطيني  .

 سيادة المطران وصف اصدار السيدة حنان منير بالتاريخي اذ إنها عملت اكثر من 20عاما على تجميع مواد هذا الكتاب الكبير الذي يعتبر مرجعا  هاما وضروريا في مسألة التراث الفلسطيني وقال سيادة المطران في كلمة مقتضبة في معرض الكتاب الدولي باننا نتمنى للسيدة حنان الصحة والعافية والقوة لكي تتابع نشاطها الثقافي والانساني والوطني فهي موجودة بجسدها في امريكا ولكن قلبها في فلسطين وهي تبذل قصارى جهدها من اجل ابراز التراث الفلسطيني في الغرب.

كما حضر تكريما للسيدة حنان الى جانب سيادة المطران عطاالله حنا الاستاذ بسام ابوشريف مستشار الرئيس الشهيد ياسر عرفات والسيد نيقولا عقل وحشد من رواد وزائري المعرض.

Hanan, Guest Speaker at the Library of Congress in DC, and at CUNY

On September 18, Mrs. Hanan Munayyer was invited by the Middle East and Africa division of the Library of Congress in Washington DC to discuss her embroidery research and autograph her book. The lecture was well received by the audience and the question and answer session was very vibrant and educational. The presentation was videotaped by Library of Congress personnel and will be webcasted worldwide and also available to researchers from the Library of Congress Archive.

On October 3, 2012, Mrs. Munayyer spoke at the City University of New York Middle East Department to a group of academicians, students and international designers. The event was covered by Ms. Jane Adas correspondent of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. CUNY hosted the discussion followed by a question and answer session, as well as a book signing and reception.

Dr. Ashrawi Gifts Hanan’s Book to ‘Miftah’ Honorary Guests

After seeing the book “Traditional Palestinian Costume: Origins and Evolution” during her last visit to Washington DC,  Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, President of the Ramallah based Human Rights Palestinian organization “Miftah”, was very impressed by this publication and had ordered ten copies of the book to be gifted to honorary guests of the organization “Miftah”.

Ercell Binns Donates Palestinian and Syrian Garments

Ms. Ercell Binns of Annandale, Virginia has donated several embroidered items to the Palestinian Heritage Foundation. Ms. Binns reached out to her friends Kay and Ghassan Tarazi to help locate the right home for these items. The Tarazi in turn approached the Palestinian Heritage Foundation.

The items included an exclusive antique Ramallah dress and khirka scarf from the early twentieth century, Syrian silk veils and men’s silk robes, and more. These items were originally bought by Ercell’s parents who had lived in Kentucky . They had visited Palestine as part of the church-organized tour groups to the Holy Land during the 1930s. Ercell’s father who organized these tours was the pastor of the Protestant church in his hometown during that period.

حاز كتاب “الأثواب التقليدية الفلسطينية: نشأة وتطوٌر” للمؤلفة حنان قرمان منيٌر على جائزة “كتاب السنة” لعام 2011 في حقل الفنون وذلك من قبل مؤسسة    “فورورد  رفيوز” الشهيرة في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وذلك من بين أكثر من 2000 كتاب في مختلف المواضيع قدٌمت لهذا الغرض خلال العام المنصرم. وكان قد أعلن عن الفائزين خلال شهر حزيران من هذا العام.

كان قد صدر الكتاب قبل عام للمؤلفة حنان, الأمريكية ألجنسيٌة فلسطينية الأصل نتيجة عمل دؤوب دام أكثر من خمسة وعشرون عاما من الأبحاث العلميٌة والتدوين, بما فيها ألمصادر ألغربيٌة في متاحف المملكة المتحدة, إسبانيا, فرنسا وأمريكا, ومصادرعالميٌة أخرى.

يذكر أن الكتاب نال إعجاب الرئيس محمود عبٌاس الذي قام بتقديم 200 نسخة منه هديٌة لجميع رؤساء دول العالم خلال الدورة الأخيرة للجمعيٌة العامة للأمم المتحدة في العام الماضي. ومن الجدير ذكره أن جميع النسخ التي طبعت قبل عام قد باشرت على النفاد.

من نشاطات المؤسسة هذا العام كان الاحتفال بالعيد الخامس والعشرين لتأسيسها حيث حضر ألحفل لفيف من مناصري المؤسسة من فنٌانين, ومثقٌفين ورجال سياسة ومن بينهم الدكتور كلوفيس مقصود السفير السابق للجامعة ألعربيٌة في ألأمم ألمتحدة, وسيادة المطران فيليب صليبا راعي الكنيسة ألأرثوذكسيٌة ألعربيٌة في أمريكا ألشماليٌة وكندا, وسعادة سفراء كل من ألجمهوريٌة العربيٌة السورية  ولبنان في ألأمم ألمتحدة وسيادة المطران عطالله حنا الذي وصل خصٌيصا من ألقدس للأشتراك بهذه المناسبة.

في شهر أيٌار الماضي وخلال زيارتهم لأرض الوطن قدٌمت ألسيٌدة حنان منيٌر ثلاث محاضرات في كل من القدس العربيٌة وحيفا ومن ثم في مدينة الناصرة تحت رعاية رئيس البلديٌة ألسٌيد رامز جرايسي. وقدغطٌت الصحافة العربيٌة المحلٌية في كل من هذه المدن هذا الحدث الثقافي بإسهاب. كما قام راديو مونت كارلو بإجراء مقابلة هاتفيٌة مطوٌلة أجرتها المذيعة المعروفة كابي لطيف مع الإخوة حنان وفرح منيٌر ضمن برنامج “سهرات باريسية” خلال وجودهم في مدينة الناصرة بثٌت عبر ألأثير حول العالم قبل ثلاثة أسابيع.

ومن البرامج المستقبليٌة للباحثة حنان منيٌر ألقيام بتلبية دعوات لتقديم محاضرات في كل من مكتبة الكونجرس الأمريكي في العاصمة واشنطن وذلك في الثامن عشر من الشهر المقبل وفي جامعة مدينة نيويورك في الثالث من شهر أكتوبر القادم.

على إثر حصول المؤسسة على هذه الجائزة وذاع الخبر أنصبٌت عشرات رسائل التهنئة على موقع المؤسسة معبٌرة عن الافتخار بهذا العمل الفذ.

يبقى لنا أن نقول: هل سمعتم يا عرب عن كتاب يبحث في تاريخ العرب, أو عن مؤلف عربي سبق وحاز على هذا الشرف وهذه الجائزة خلال السنوات القريبة البعيدة ؟ ألم يحن الوقت لأن نصحوا على أنفسنا وعلى أوضاعنا التي وصلت إلى أعمق قعر عرفه التاريخ؟

ولا يسع “صوت العروبة” وأسرتها إلا وأن تتقدٌم بأحر التهاني للسيٌدة حنان والأخ فرح منيٌر وللأمة ألعربيٌة على هذا العمل الفذ الذي رفع رؤوسنا عاليا.
